Digi International Selected by HP As First Hardware Provider In New Partner Program
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1999--Digi International(R) Inc. (Nasdaq:DGII) announced today that Digi(TM) communications adapters will be used to add enhanced remote access and fax capabilities to Hewlett-Packard Company's Business Communications Server (BCS) platform. Digi is the world's leading provider of multi-function communications adapters. As part of this partnership, Digi becomes the first hardware supplier to be certified as a member of the HP BCS Solution Partner Program.
The HP BCS provides a reliable, integrated voice and data communications platform. The platform combines telephony and voicemail capabilities with a fully functional server that can address the business applications and Internet needs of small- to medium-size businesses. The voice-over-IP option makes the HP BCS an ideal solution for remote or satellite offices of larger organizations. The platform is available in the United States and Canada through a network of HP-certified resellers.
Digi International has tested and certified the Digi AccelePort RAS(TM) (Remote Access Solution) card for use in the HP BCS, and is in the process of testing and certifying solutions from the Digi DataFire RAS(TM) family for availability in January 2000. Both AccelePort RAS and DataFire RAS adapter cards provide high-density access ports that enable high-speed, low-cost connectivity for mobile employees, telecommuters, branch offices and SOHO (small office/home office) users.
"HP's confidence in Digi reaffirms our position as the leading provider of open systems server-based communication products," said Joseph Dunsmore, Digi president and chief executive officer. "Digi's long experience in developing innovative, value-rich communications products for customers worldwide, combined with HP's reputation for building very versatile, high-quality servers, results in unmatched value, flexibility and reliability for end users and network integrators."
The integration of DataFire RAS and AccelePort RAS communications adapters with the HP BCS extends and enhances the server's wide array of features by enabling remote access and fax server applications via high density modem and ISDN ports in a standard PCI bus. The adapters allow high-speed connections over Basic Rate Interface ISDN, T1, Prime Rate Interface ISDN and standard telephone service.
"Today's business model has introduced two new variables: Employees have greater job flexibility than ever before, and small satellite offices are becoming increasingly common," said Dan Abouav, general manager of HP's Business Communications Solutions Operation. "Previously, it was difficult to supply remote and satellite employees with the same high-speed connections they were accustomed to. HP's relationship with Digi enables high-quality connectivity for mobile employees, telecommuters and branch offices."
