Digi International Receives SunReady Verification for Server-Based ISDN Products

MINNEAPOLIS, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Digi International, Inc. (Nasdaq: DGII), the leading provider of server-based communications solutions, announced today that its Digi DataFire(TM) PRIme adapter cards have received SunReady(TM) verification from Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW). Digi is a leading provider of server-based ISDN connectivity solutions for the more than two million users of the Solaris(TM) operating environment.

SunReady is a branding system designed to inform customers that third-party products developed for Sun's network computing environment meet specific standards for ease of installation, use and management. Products must meet testing requirements set by Sun and tested by VeriTest, a Santa Monica, Calif.-based independent computer products testing laboratory, in order to become SunReady verified.

The Solaris operating environment is Sun's flagship platform and the UNIX industry's highest-volume licensed software environment for enterprise management. The platform features fast Java(TM) technology, large file support and strong database and Web server performance.

"Our customers want easy access to the network," said Barbara Craig, senior manager of Product Marketing at Digi. "As the leader in server-based communications and the largest provider of adapter boards for the UNIX market, Digi is ready to help customers build reliable, server-based communications solutions that work in demanding environments. Now we're offering SunReady verified, server-based, end-to-end ISDN to Solaris operating environment users for the first time."

With Digi's new PRI driver, the company's DataFire BRI and PC card client adapters can be used with the DataFire PRIme card at the server to deliver end-to-end ISDN connectivity. Each DataFire PRIme adapter can support up to 23 (T1) or 30 (E1) ISDN B-channel connections, providing aggregate throughput of over 1.9 Mbps.

"We are excited that Digi offers the Solaris operating environment users end-to-end ISDN connectivity with Digi products," said Peter Young, director of Market Development Engineering at Sun Microsystems. "Digi's products meet the needs of a wide range of businesses. Adding PRI ISDN gives our Solaris operating environment a boost as an enterprise communications platform."

Digi's DataFire solutions are highly scalable. Multiple BRI or PRI cards can be installed on a single server, providing ISDN connectivity for both the enterprise and smaller systems. Because Digi products are based on open server platforms, users avoid the high cost, complicated installation and difficult configuration associated with standalone or dial-up routers.

Each member of the Digi DataFire BRI family supports two 64 Kbps B channels and one 16 Kbps D channel. The B channels can be used independently for two simultaneous 64 Kbps connections or aggregated for a single 128 Kbps connection. Both the BRI and PRI products include worldwide telecom switch type support and certifications.

The new Digi driver for the Solaris operating environment is available free of charge on the Internet at http://www.dgii.com or by calling Digi in the United States at 800-344-4273.
