Digi DataFire RAS Communications Adapters Named Product of the Year by Communications Solutions Magazine

Hailed as High-Performance, Cost-Effective Communications Solutions

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2000--Digi International(R) (Nasdaq: DGII) the leading provider of communications adapter cards worldwide, announced today that its DataFire(R) RAS (Remote Access Server) family of products has been named a 1999 Product of the Year by Communications Solutions(TM) magazine.

Digi(TM) DataFire RAS adapters can create a flexible, cost-effective, server-based communications solution. A standard PC server running virtually any operating system can be equipped with DataFire RAS adapters to enable applications such as remote access, fax, routing, Internet point of presence, virtual private networking and unified messaging. The DataFire RAS adapter was selected by Communications Solutions for its use of advanced dense modem technology to provide companies of all sizes with a cost-effective connectivity solution that offers scalability to meet future growth demands.

Over the past year, countless companies in the United States and throughout the world have turned to Digi products for reliable communications at a reasonable price. Over the past several months, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Red Hat have worked with Digi to offer versatile communications solutions under a wide range of operating systems including Windows NT, Linux, OS/400 and many others. In addition, a number of international companies, such as Telkom South Africa, Tropico Systems in Brazil and Sumisho Datacom in Japan, rely on Digi products for very high volume 24x7 carrier-class applications.

"With the growing popularity of server-based communications throughout the world, Digi adapters are in great demand," said Joseph Dunsmore, president and chief executive officer of Digi International. "The DataFire RAS adapter is the solution of choice for companies seeking a versatile, robust product at unmatched value."

According to TMC President and Group Publisher Rich Tehrani, "Communications Solutions magazine initiated the Product of the Year award program to help our readers sort through the vast proliferation of new products and services in the marketplace. The Product of the Year award, selected by the editors of Communications Solutions and the engineers of TMC Labs, is given to products, such as the Digi DataFire RAS family, that deserve the attention of forward-thinking organizations looking for best-of-breed solutions."

DataFire RAS communications adapters use the latest advances in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, resulting in the industry's highest density of on-board modems. Digi DataFire RAS adapters support from eight to 60 channels in a single PCI or CompactPCI slot, and can be field-upgraded with additional channels as needed.

Digi DataFire RAS adapters offer a scalable solution for today's communications needs, from low density POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), to medium density Basic Rate Interface (BRI) ISDN, to high density T1/E1 and Primary Rate Interface (PRI) ISDN, with full support for digital and analog (fax/V.90 modem) connections. Multiple DataFire RAS adapters can be installed in a single server so capability can be expanded as needs grow.
